Smith, Davis & Co. received word that the prop. CUMBERLAND burned last night at Fairport, Ohio, being destroyed from aft to front of engine. The engine is a total loss. She was probably unloading her ore cargo at the time she took fire. Her hull policies are all exclusive of fire, $80,000 being carried by different companies.

      The burned prop. CUMBERLAND was found to be in such bad condition that it was not thought advisable to tow her to Buffalo, and she will be repaired at Cleveland. Capt. McLeod has gone to the latter place to look after her on behalf of the insurance companies.

      Messrs. Samuel Parsons and H.G. Trout of Buffalo, representing the Marine Insurance companies, and Wm. Radcliffe and Robert Wallace, representatives for the owners of the burned prop. CUMBERLAND, are making a survey of the vessel. The insurance is $50,000, and it is thought the damage is nearly that sum.

      Smith, Davis & Co. received word this afternoon that the damage to the burned prop. CUMBERLAND, which is in drydock at Cleveland, was appraised at $25,066. The loss will fall upon the fire insurance companies, as her marine policies were issued exclusive of fire. The CUMBERLAND was recently burned at Fairport, Ohio, was built in 1881 by Quayles, was 1,280 tons burden, owned by Gilchrist, and was valued at $100,000, rating on the Lloyds register as A 1*. She will be rebuilt at Cleveland.
