N. M. Standart (Brig), sunk by collision, 1 Nov 1859

The Detroit Advertiser of yesterday says:-- From the Captain of the propeller RACINE, which passed down today, we learn that on Friday last a collision took place between the brig STANDART and schooner AUTOCRAT, in the vicinity of the Manitous. The former vessel was bound down with a cargo of wheat -- the latter up with a cargo of salt. Both vessels succeeded in reaching South Manitou Bay, at which place the brig sank in eleven feet of water. The schooner, though leaking badly, was enabled to proceed on her voyage.
The tug OSWEGO leaves here this evening to go to the relief of the STANDART, and raise her if possible.

THE N.M. STANDART. - The tug OSWEGO, of Buffalo, yesterday brought in the brig N.M. STANDART, recently ashore at the Manitous. The brig has an ugly looking patch over a great hole in her larboard bow and looks bad aloft. She must have had a hard time.
