Huron (Propeller), collision, 23 Oct 1905

TUG SUNK AND FIREMAN WAS DROWNED.
      Canal Tug HUDSON Crushed Between Two Freighters In Buffalo River.
Thomas Smith, fireman of the tug HUDSON, lost his life yesterday afternoon by being carried to the bottom of Buffalo River by the crushing of the tug between the propellers HURON and RAMAPO. Capt. Sim Staley and engineer James Reilly were thrown overboard by the concussion but were rescued.
      The HUDSON was on her way down the river to pick up a tow and was picking her way carefully among the vessels that congested the harbor. She was steaming alongside the RAMAPO, which was unloading at the Lackawanna docks, when the freighter HURON of the Soo Line came along, and before the HUDSON could stop or turn aside, she was pinched between the two boats and crushed in.
      Fireman Smith was in the firehold and went down with the vessel.
      Searchers in the tug ALEX. SLOAN dragged the river for the body last night, but did not find it. Smith lived in Lockport and boarded at 441 Elm Street, Buffalo.
