Marquette, Nov. 28. - The attempt to release the schooner ALTA, wrecked some weeks ago on Grand Island, near Munising, has been abandoned by the Reid Wrecking Company of Sarnia, which purchased the boat. The ALTA is fast on a reef and will probably soon go to pieces.
Most of her deck load of lumber drifted ashore, and was picked up by men who refuse to give it up unless paid one-third of the appraised value. Reid declines to consider the proposition and a fight in the courts is probable. The lumber involved amounts to a quarter million feet.
