The Cleveland Herald, 3rd. inst.,says, as the propeller HERCULES was coming up last night, when off Fairport, she nearly came in collision with a three masted schooner, supposed to be the Canadian schooner GILMOUR. The captain hailed the HERCULES, said he was in a sinking condition, and wished to be taken in tow. The HERCULES passed around the schooner several times, but on account of an injury to her propeller's wheel and the roughness of the sea, it was found impossible to tow, and the captain of the HERCULES hailed the captain of the vessel to make sail for the beach, and when last seen she was doing so.
