On Saturday afternoon we, with a number of our citizens, received an invitation to take an excursion on board the prop. EMIGRANT, it being her experimental trip. On account of a leakage in one of her steam chambers she did not get out until 10:00 in the evening, and owing to the lateness of the hour, we were deprived of the pleasure of the excursion. We are gratified to hear from those who were on board that everything worked to admiration, and far surpassed the most sanguine expectation of her owners. The greatest speed attained was estimated by competent judges an board at 8 miles per hour, and that too, without a full head of steam. The same persons are of the opinion that she can easily make 9 miles per hour The EMIGRANT is rigged as a hermaphrodite brig, and is one of the most beautiful vessels on the western waters. She was built by Capt. George W. Jones, of this city, and is of the following dimensions: Extreme length 120 ft.; length of keel 115 ft.; breadth of beam 25 1/2 ft.; depth of hold 9 ft. 2 inches She rates about 275 tons Her joiner work is by Seth W. Johnson; her painting by H.P. Hopkins; sails by V. Swain.

Her cabins are upon the main deck and fitted up with staterooms. The Gentlemen's cabin is furnished in a style not surpassed by our best steam boats, and can accommodate 30 passengers. Her steerage cabin is large and commodious, and can, with her staterooms and hanging berths, accommodate 50 passengers. Besides this she has as good accommodations forward of her cabin and in the fore hold as is usually found on board our steamboats, for steerage passengers. -- Cleveland Herald.

By reference to our advertising columns it will be perceived that this vessel leaves the wharf of Cort, Kimberly & Co. for Chicago, on Saturday next. The EMIGRANT was only 36 hours in coming from Cleveland to this port, with a stiff headwind the whole time.
