Phalarope (Schooner), U19766, leak, 1 Oct 1858

Description
Full Text

The schooner PHALAROPE arrived in Chicago on the 26th, inst., in a leaky condition, but managed to keep afloat by means of her pumps. The cause of the leak is said to her being too heavily laden. While her tonnage was only 371, she was laden with 200 tons of railroad iron and 200,000 feet of lumber. She will have to undergo a thorough caulking.
