Cobourg (Steamboat), aground, 6 Aug 1835
- Full Text
Montreal, August 8. - On Thursday evening last, the steamer COBOURG, shortly after leaving Brockville, ran upon a reef of rocks off the Islands, and remained hard aground till Friday, when she was got off by the WILLIAM. Before the WILLIAM came down an ineffectual attempt was made with the UNITED STATES to get the COBOURG afloat; and much damage was done aboard the latter, in consequence of the windlass, (to which the chain cable used to haul her off, had been improperly made fast,) being torn from the bitts, and dragged aft, carrying away every thing that offered an impediment to its passage. We believe that the passengers and crew escaped without injury. - Shipping List.
