- Full Text
Sault Ste. Marie, Oct. 16.- The JAY GOULD, which passed down last night went through a quantity of wreckage above Whitefish Point. Hatches, tarpaulins and hatch frames were seen. It could not be determined whether they came from a steamer or a schooner.
The SPENCER and PENNINGTON have arrived. The steamer KERSHAW and the barge SAGE, for which grave fears were entertained, are reported ashore. The KERSHAW is at Waiska Bay. She is owned by W.S. Mack of Cleveland and valued at $52,000 The SAGE is on Whitefish Point, near the IRONTON, the other barge of the tow, and was owned by the late Thomas Maytham of Buffalo and valued at $25,000. The IRONTON is in bad shape.
