The schooner MONTEREY was released from Sleeping Bear Point where she was stranded last year.

When the schooner MONTEREY went ashore at Sleeping Bear point last fall her owners, Brady, Carpenter and others of Detroit, abandoned her to the insurance companies. Some time afterwards, when settling the insurance claims against them, the underwriters proposed to the former owners to pay $3,500 and return the boat to them. As the vessel was but slightly injured, the owners accepted the proposition and depended upon their chances of releasing her. An expedition was sent out to her last week and she was released. The wrecking bill was $1,300 The boat is in fair shape, and the expenditure of $1,000 will probably put her in her old trim again. As she was valued last year at $6,000 by Lloyds, it will seem that after all bills are paid the owners will be about $7,000 ahead on the transaction.
