Alva Bradley (Schooner), U1910, collision, 1 Nov 1885

Description
Full Text

A serious collision occurred Sunday morning in St. Clair Cut, between the schooner ALVA BRADLEY, of the E.B. HALE's tow, bound up, and the schooner MAGNETIC, consort of the CONTINENTAL. The wind was blowing a gale from the Southeast, and the BRADLEY, being light, made considerable leeway, thus getting in the way of the CONTINENTAL. The latter struck her on the port quarter, causing her to swing around and meet the MAGNETIC, colliding bows on. The BRADLEY's head gear was carried away and her bulwarks and planking badly crushed. She made water freely. The MAGNETIC was also seriously damaged.
