Matilda (Barge), collision, 18 Jun 1885

A Cleveland dispatch says: The iron tug RECORD was seized by the United States Marshal on Wednesday. On the 18th of June last the RECORD was going up the river with the lumber laden barge MATILDA in tow, and between Seneca street bridge and Central Way the tug PATRICK HENRY was met steaming down stream with two mud scows in tow. The scows collided with the barge, which was considerably damaged. The owner, A.A. Pinet, of East Saginaw, libeled the PATRICK HENRY. Smith, owner of the PATRICK HENRY, claims it was as much the fault of the RECORD, and he thinks her owners should pay half the damages. He accordingly filed a cross libel, and had the tug seized. Bonds were furnished and the boat was released.
