- Full Text
Sault Ste. Marie. - The schooner THOMAS L. PARKER, ore laden from Ashland, in tow with steam barge ESCANABA, bound down for Chicago, sprang a leak off the canal entrance above Keweenaw Point during the late west and northwest gale. The tow were compelled to seek shelter in Bay Degrise harbor. The ESCANABA, on arrival here yesterday morning at 4 A. M., while entering the canal, grounded and was run into by the PARKER. Her after-cabin, bulwarks, rail, etc, were cut down to her main deck, and all her headgear, including her jibboom and bowsprit split. The PARKER took a gang of pump hands. The collision did not increase her leak. The damage is estimated at $500 for each vessel.
