The Wallula visited Kelleys Island in May 1885 and a letter to the Sandusky Register included this note: Tomorrow the propeller Wallula, one of the largest on the lakes, will call at the North dock for 1,500 barrels of lime for Duluth. The Wallula is larger than the City of Rome, and draws 12-1/2 feet of water. This will give our citizens a chance to see a mammoth steamer without price. (www.KelleysIslandStory.com)
