KATIE ECCLES TOTAL LOSS.
      Tug Unable to Reach Vessel Which Is Ashore - Crew Still At Island

      Lyman Davis Has To Be Lightered Before She Can Be Released.

ááá It is feared that the Schooner KATIE ECCLES which went ashore on the east shore of Timber Island on Sunday night, will be a total loss. On Tuesday afternoon, when the tug MARY P.á HALL was returning from Waupoos Island where the schooner LYMAN DAVIS went ashore about the same time as the KATIE ECCLES, the Hall's crew was able to get sight of the KATIE ECCLES.
Miller Donnelly, of the Donnelly Wrecking company, stated upon his arrival in the city that he was almost certain the ECCLES would be a total loss. The schooner had been drive up so far on the shore that it will be impossible for a tug to get close enough to pull her off. Mr. Donnelly said that he did not think that the schooner was resting in more than four feet of water. It is evident that the crew is O.K. as smoke was coming out of the smoke stack on the cabin.
Whether or not the cargo of coal which was consigned to Schuster Coal Company can be saved is a question. On account of the low water it is thought that the chances of getting the coal are very slight.
      On Tuesday afternoon, word was received about the safety of the KATIE ECCLES by the Whig, which had gone to press, but the good news was bulletined. The Schuster Coal Company, Belleville, was notified shortly after three o'clock Tuesday afternoon that the missing schooner had been located at Timber Island, and the company immediately communicated with the Whig.
The Donnelly Salvage and Wrecking Company crew, which was at Waupoos Island on Tuesday to try and release the schooner LYMAN DAVIS, found that she was so hard on that before she can be pulled off her cargo will have to be lightened. The tug MARY P. HALL returned, and on Wednesday morning cleared with a lighter.
