Mautenee (Barge), fire, 15 Jul 1905

Description
Full Text

The barge MAUTENEE, anchored at the foot of Hertel Ave., caught fire
Thursday morning.
The fire broke out in a bunk in the forward part of the ship from an
unknown cause.
The mate, John Ryan, was the first to discover the blaze, and after
calling all hands forward to fight it, he sent in an alarm.
By the time the first engine arrived the fire was under control; but to
make sure work, the firemen hauled a hose aboard and finished the job.
The MAUTENEE is owned by the Merchants' Transportation Co. and was
unloading a cargo of lumber at the docks of Holland & Graves Co. when the
fire occurred. The damage is about $100.
