Full Text

An affair which needs explaining occurred on board the prop. SUN, at 5 A.M. on the 26th ult., while off Sheboygan, in which a negro deck hand lost his life by drowning. The first report of the affair stated that the negro and a white deck hand got into a quarrel, in which the white man drew a knife and rushed the negro. The latter to escape the knife leaped overboard. But later advice state that the negro run at the white deck hand to strike him with his head, and the man stepping aside the negro went overboard and sunk at once.
