Ironton (Barge), aground, 15 Jul 1873
- Full Text
The barge IRONTON which was aground at the Neebish, has been reported off, yet the prop. CRAIG brought intelligence which would indicate that she was still aground on Friday. On the contrary a dispatch dated Collingwood, Ont., July 11th, says. "The barge IRONTON is aground near here, and another barge aground near Sailor's Encampment, both laden with iron and bound for Cleveland." The schr. W.B. ALLEN, which arrived here yesterday morning, reported passing the barge IRONTON, leaking badly. On this information Capts. McKenna and Ash have gone to the relief with tug and pumps to be procured from Detroit or Port Huron.

The stm. KEWEENAW, just down from Lake Superior reports that the barge IRONTON is yet on the rocks at the Neebish, with no assistance at hand. The tugs were all very busily engaged in transferring vessels through the Detroit River, and their services could not be had.
