Constellation (Canal Boat), leak, 28 Jun 1858

CANAL ACCIDENT. - The boat "CONSTELLATION" from Buffalo for Albany, says the Rochester Democrat, with a cargo of flour, oil cake, high wines and bacon, met with an accident just east of the first lock, in Brighton, Monday afternoon. Her crew say that she struck upon a rock in the bottom of the canal, and broke a hole in her bottom. She immediately returned to the city, and when she reached the Weight Lock, had six feet of water in her. She was partially repaired and taken to Ely's mill, where she is now unloading. A considerable portion of the flour and oil cake in the cargo of the CONSTELLATION, is damaged. The boat is owned by O.N. Chapin, of Albany. The captain's name is C.J. Johnson.
