Hamilton, Oct. 8. -- This morning about half past three o'clock, the propellers STANDLEY and BRISTOL, lying in winter moorings at Zealand Dock, were discovered to be on fire, and before assistance could be rendered both boats were beyond control. The BRISTOL was burned to the water's edge, proving a total loss. The propeller ZEALAND, lying at the same dock took fire but was got out of the way, sustaining damage to the extent of about $800. The three propellers were moored alongside each other, the BRISTOL next the dock, the ZEALAND outside. The fire originated aboard the STANDLEY, which was in the center. The ZEALAND was cut adrift and shoved off after being badly scorched. Fortunately, little or no wind prevailed, and rain set in shortly after. The STANDLEY and the BRISTOL belonged to the insolvent estate of Wyilie & Young, and was held by the Merchant's Bank as security. The STANDLEY was valued at $35,000, and insured in the British American for $15,000, Western $7,000 and Royal Canadian $6,000. The BRISTOL was valued at $15,000 and was insured for $10,000 in the Royal. The hull of the vessels will likely be saved. They are being sunk.
