Capt. John Rice failed to raise the prop. D.F. ROSE, sunk at Tonawanda, and the expedition returned to port. A second attempt will be made.

The steam barge ROSE, lumber laden, was partially burned Tuesday night at Tonawanda. The fire started in the engine room about 12 o'clock. The fire was extinguished by scuttling the boat. The damage is thought not to exceed $1,000. The hull and cargo were insured. The tug CROWELL and a steam pump were sent down this evening to raise the burnt craft.

The stmb. D.F. ROSE, which caught fire and was scuttled at Tonawanda last Monday night, was pumped out and raised yesterday. A survey to ascertain the extent of her injuries will be held today. She is discharging her cargo.
