The collision between the schr. JANE RALSTON and the prop. EMPIRE STATE occurred off Middle Island, Lake Huron, while the RALSTON was lying at anchor. the night was dark and it was blowing a gale. The propeller struck her on the flat of her stern, about 2 ft. from her starboard davit, cutting her boat into splinters and going into the vessel about 5 ft., breaking her davit and giving her a general shake up. The vessel was at once picked up by the propeller and towed to Detroit, where she will be repaired and then proceed on her voyage. She was loaded with pine lumber and bound for the lower lakes.
