Tioga (Propeller), U24167, disabled steering, 12 Oct 1876

The prop. TIOGA, which left port Monday morning returned yesterday afternoon about 4:30, and reported the logs of the barge KENTUCKY, which was missed Monday night, when the propeller was some distance from Long Pt. The TIOGA got the barges HATTIE, ELMA and O. CROMWELL under the Point, and then started out along the north shore in search of the missing barge, but was unable to find her, and came on to Buffalo. A dispatch was received this morning by Capt. McFarlane, stating that the KENTUCKY was ashore 8 miles above Grand River. Previous to missing the KENTUCKY, the TIOGA broke her wheel chains and was obliged to navigate with a temporary steering apparatus.
