The stm. GARLAND, which was dispatched to the stmb. JARVIS LORD, sunk at Turtle Island, reports ice full 5 inches thick in Lake Erie. The GARTLAND returned here to get more pumps being unable to pump the JARVIS LORD out with the 2 steam pumps she had. She will attempt to return tonight, but it is very doubtful as ice is making fast.

The prop. JARVIS LORD, with 24,000 bu. wheat and 10,000 bu. corn for Buffalo, left Toledo on Friday. When about 1/2 a mile east of Turtle Island she struck a snag and bagan leaking so badly that Capt. Drake ran her ashore on the Island. The break was thought to be quite serious. The stm. GARLAND went to her assistance with Gillett's centrifugal pumps from Detroit. Just how much injury has been done to boat or cargo has not yet appeared. The LORD is owned by M.W. Drake, F.A. Georger and Capt. A.W. Drake, her master, all of this city. She is insured for $30,000 on a policy caluation of $35,000, the Manhattan, Greenwich, Toledo, Buffalo, Mercantile and Pacific companies, each holding $5,000. The cargo is placed as follows: Mercantile, $4,000, Toledo $4,450, Great Western $5,500, Merchants $2,500, National Lloyds $2,500 and St. Paul $3,000.
