Description
Full Text

MONROVIA was former "Victory" type, built in 1943, 430 ft., 6700 gt. She was a package freighter, Liberian-flagged with Greek crew. On June 25, 1959, bound Antwerp for Chicago, she collided with the Great Lakes freighter ROYALTON in a heavy fog and sank 13.6 mi, 106 degrees from Thunder Bay Island Coast Guard Station. She lies upright and mostly intact with 43 feet of water over her highest point. Her owners and captain were cited for travelling too fast for conditions and operating without a pilot aboard. Divers can charter to her from Alpena, MI.
