Loss of the Barge MOHAWK - went down off Pointe aux Barques in gale of Oct. 30; it was built in Kingston in 1840; had 2 engines from gunboat FOX of the British Navy; was a Canadian gunboat for 11 years stationed on the Niagara frontier, then sailed from Port Stanley to Buffalo.

The barge MOHAWK, Capt. N.C. Kendall, broke away from the CLEMATIS on Sunday night and has not been heard from.

A correspondent writes from Algomac as follows: On the night of October 30th Barges MILLS, MOHAWK and HOLLEN in tow of the CLEMATIS parted their line in a gale of wind off Pointe aux Barques. The captain of the tug, it is reported, never tried to pick them up, or take the men off, though he must have known that the MOHAWK, being an iron barge, would never ride out the storm. She was commanded by Capt. N.C. Kendall, formerly of Port Huron, and with her seven lives were lost. Capt. Kendall leaves a wife and six small children, with the sympathies of the entire community.
