Luther Wright (Schooner), aground, 13 Apr 1854
- Full Text
Disaster on Lake Michigan. -- The violent Northwest storm accompanied with thick snow which prevailed on Friday, appears to have been felt with severity on Lake Huron. The mate of the steamboat PEARL informs us on Saturday that the schooner BUCKEYE, which composed one of a fleet that was upward bound, was compelled to return to Port Huron, by the violence of the gale, where her officers reported that the barque BADGER STATE, the schooner FORTUNE, the schooner LUTHER WRIGHT and the propeller FOREST QUEEN, had been driven ashore somewhere between Thunder Bay and Presque Isle. The LUTHER WRIGHT had lost one of her masts. The mate said there appears to be some doubts on the part of the captain of the BUCKEYE STATE, as to there all being ashore, some of them might have been only among the ice, and could not get out. -- Det.
