Table Rock (Barge), water-logged, 1 May 1867
- Full Text
BARGE WATER-LOGGED. -- We learn that the barge TABLE ROCK, while on the passage from Saginaw to this port with a cargo of lumber, and in company with other craft, broke loose from the tow Thursday on Lake Huron, and owing to the roughness of the weather could not be picked up again. The tug proceeded on the River St. Clair with the remaining vessels, and on returning for the lost barge found her anchored near Point aux Barque and water-logged, having been abandoned by her crew in the meantime. In this dilemma the tug was unable to carry out the purport of her mission, and she was accordingly left to her fate, with what result is not known. There is a strong probability that both vessel and cargo will prove a total loss.

We learn that the barge TABLE ROCK, which was reported water-logged and abandoned at Pt. au Barque, has been rescued and towed to Detroit. The Post says "she was picked up by the tug DISPATCH, which had also the crew of the barge on board, which towed her for some distance when she was met by the tug GEN. GRANT, which laid claim to the tow, having been chartered for that purpose. We do not learn that any of her cargo has been sacrificed to the elements, yet the barge appears to have gone through a somewhat desperate siege."
