Dolphin (Scow), damaged steering, 2 Nov 1865

Description
Full Text

The Detroit Free Press says: "The scow DOLPHIN left this port a few days since for Buffalo, laden with barley and staves, and on reaching Pt. au Pelee passage, machinery to her steering wheel broke, which rendered her unmanageable. Shortly afterwards, owing to the high wind which was blowing, her sails were all split and badly used up. By a strategic movement on the part of her captain, she got under Point au Pelee Island, and from thence towed to this port for repairs.

The scow DOLPHIN on Lake Erie, hence from Buffalo, narrowly escaped destruction by means of her wheel becoming unmanageable. She finally got under Point au Pelee island, whence she was towed back to this port.
