BIG SETTLEMENT FOR BURNED STEAMER.
Underwriters Must Pay Biggest Loss in the History of the Lakes
The loss on the steamer CITY OF CLEVELAND, the passenger steamer that was burned at Detroit last year when nearly completed, has been adjusted. The loss on the boat was estimated at the time at $730,000. It is said that the settlement will be made on a basis of 75 per cent, of the estimated loss, or about $550,000. This is the largest loss the underwriters have ever been called upon to settle on the lakes. The work of rebuilding the steamer is well along. The new boat will be placed on the Cleveland route and the CITY OF St. IGNACE, which was the old CITY OF CLEVELAND, will be operated Between Detroit and St. Ignace.
