SEVERE GALE ON LAKE HURON. -- The Detroit Advertiser of yesterday remarks: -- A very severe storm occurred on Lake Huron Friday and Saturday last, causing great distruction among vessels, and it is feared many lives have been lost. A large fleet of vessels arrived from above Sunday and Monday, from whom we have collected the following items of news:
The schooner MIDNIGHT, from Lake Superior, with ore, threw overboard 30 tons to prevent her foundering.
Her flying jib was carried away.
The schooner S. J. HOLLY, after entering St. Clair River, ran foul of the Grand Trunk Elevator, riddling one side of it. She lost both her jibs, besides her hull being injured.
The schooner FORTUNE is reported hard aground above Hog Island, her small boat gone, and gangways washed away.
The schooner WHITE SQUALL drifted across the bows of the schooner TARTER. The SQUALL was stove in amidships causing her to leak badly, and before she reached this city had near three feet of water in her hold. She was grain loaded, a portion of which must be in a damage state.
The schooner TARTER, by this collision, had her cutwater, her flying jibboom unshipped, and small anchor broken, also her head gear carried away.
