Ada Medora (Schooner), U403, aground, 1 Oct 1876

It was stated yesterday that the reason of the schooners ADA MEDORA and BAY STATE going ashore at Menomonee, a few days ago, was that the light at that point had been misplaced by some one. Heretofore a red light had been shown from the steamboat dock, which is about half a mile north of Menomonee Piers. Vessels making for this port during the night always dropped their anchor after passing that light. On the night when these two vessels arrived there the light was on the North Pier instead of the usual place, and the vessels, not knowing this, were ashore before they dropped anchor. Some one has blundered, and ought to be held responsible for the damage done to the vessels. --- Chicago Tribune, 24th.
