A STEAM YACHT DESTROYED
A Mystery in Connection With the Burning of the MAGIC This Morning.
Port Ontario, March 28. - (Special.) The steam yacht MAGIC, owned by Captain Ripson of Pulaski, was discovered to be on fire at 3 o'clock this morning and was speedily reduced to ashes. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
There has been no fire in the boiler since last Fall. Captain Ripson, it is said, holds a policy of insurance for $2,500 on the boat. The MAGIC, in her day, was one of the finest steam yachts on Lake Ontario. She was built by Captain Throop, of Pultneyville, about fifteen years ago and cost in the neighborhood of $15,000.
Captain Ripson owned the boat for two seasons. She was engaged in the excursion business between Sackets Harbor and St. Lawrence River ports.
