Yesterday's Blow - Reports of Disasters on Lake Ontario
      The Schooners DELAWARE, GEARING, FLEETWING and others on the Beach
      Haven Among the Rochester Yachts - The KATIE GRAY All Right - Notes.
The same storm of yesterday proves to have been quite disastrous to vessels so unfortunate as to be caught out. Very few craft overtaken by the storm escaped unharmed. So far as ascertained there was loss of life except the boy Parks who was drowned by the capsized of a yacht at Charlotte. The following special dispatches tell the story of the storm's fury in this neighborhood:
      The KATIE GRAY
The yacht KATIE GRAY, Captain W.B. Phelps Jr., which dragged ashore at Sodus Point Sunday morning during the gale, came down the lake all right last night and is now safe at her anchorage.When she struck the beach all haste was made to get assistance. The steam yacht LIZZIE took a long hawser which was kindly loaned by Mr. Fred LeFevre. A few hard pulls floated the KATIE all right. The yacht ARMIDA of Rochester was also driven ashore and could not be released. At night she was high and dry. The Katie Gray was not damaged.
      The Schooner FREEMAN.
The schooner B. FREEMAN, ashore seven miles West of this city, occupies an easy position on a gravel bottom and does not appear to be greatly damaged. Captain Allen left for the wreck this morning and at noon it was reported that she had her sails all set, drying in the sun. She will be released just as soon as possible, probably tomorrow.
      The GEARING Ashore
Kingston, Aug. 14. (Special.) - The schooner C. GEARING is ashore at Poplar Point at the entrance to South Bay. here condition has not been learned. The GEARING is owned by D. Campbell of Wellington, and is sailed by Captain Bongard. She left Oswego Friday afternoon with a load of plaster stone bound for Wellington. The cargo was shipped by Farwell & Co., and is insured. It is not known whether or not there is any insurance on the vessel.
      On and Off.
Sodus, N.Y., Aug. 14 - (Special) - The schooner L.R. RONEY, loaded with lumber for Oswego was blown ashore at Sand Point in the harbor. The vessel was not seriously damage and was pulled off by the tug CORNELIA.
      The DELAWARE High and Dry.
Woodville, N.Y., Aug. 14. - (Special) - The schooner DELAWARE of Oswego went on the beach six miles below here at 7 o'clock last night. The vessel was bound from Oakville for Oswego light. The crew were taken off by the Life Saving crew. This morning the vessel was lying easily on a sandy bottom, not more than four feet from shore and but little damaged. She will be taken off as soon as the sea runs down. The DELAWARE is owned by McCarthy & Marsh of Oswego city and is insured. A second dispatch dated Sandy Creek says the DELAWARE is loaded with coal.
