- Full Text
The storm which visited the lake region Friday ruled especially fierce on Lake Michigan, where several marine mishaps occurred. The schooner GEORGE C. FINNEY, which left Chicago Thursday evening and had gotten off Milwaukee, had her mainsail split, and ran back to Chicago to have it repaired. The canvas was nearly new.
The MARY McVEA had two jibs torn to tatters, and ran back to Chicago. The schooner ALICE RICHARDS had a deck load of dry lumber, which got so wet by the washing of the seas that it became heavy and caused the vessel to list to the port side, in which condition she arrived at Chicago. The steam-barge NORMAN was also listed considerably.
The scow SANDY MORRISON, light, Milwaukee to Grand Haven, was beached in attemption to make St. Joseph for shelter, Friday.
The small schooner FREE DEMOCRAT arrived at Racine Friday morningin a waterlogged condition, having sprung a leak outside. She was towed into shoal water.
