Cormorant (Propeller), aground, 25 Nov 1903

Two more vessels have been added to the victims of Simmon's Reef, near the west entrance of the Straits of Mackinac. In the thick weather of Wednesday night the Western Transit liner COMMODORE and another vessel, believed to be the CORMORANT of the Hines fleet, stranded on that dangerous obstruction. The stranding was reported at Mackinaw City by the propeller R. P. FITZGERALD, which also said the crew of the COMMODORE was throwing the cargo overboard in an effort to release that vessel. The FITZGERALD did not attempt to approach the vessels on account of the great danger of running on the reefs. The barge which was being towed by the CORMORANT is at anchor near the bay. The COMMODORE had a valuable cargo of package freight from Milwaukee for Buffalo.
