The JAPAN, another of the Lake Superior passenger boats grounded near Detour light but was released after lightering 100 tons of deck freight and jettisoning part of her fuel. The schooner SHELDON sustained considerable damage by going ashore on Lake Michigan, and the Canadian schooner SLIGO will have a repair bill of about $500 to pay as tile result of several hours on hard bottom at Outer Duck Island, Georgian Bay.
