The barge IRON CLIFF, bound down in tow of the steamer IRON CHIEF, struck the barge M.R. GOFFE and sunk her below Stag Island on Wednesday. The accident caused by the captain of the IRON CLIFF mistaking the lights on the GOFFE for those of his tow barge. He steered for them and discovered his mistake too late to avert the accident. The GOFFE lies decks to at anchor with her bows all broken in. She was loaded with cedar ties for the Cleveland Cedar Co. and is owned by Capt. Thomas Fish of port Huron.
