Full Text

The steamer CHISHOLM is on the Rock of Ages Isle Royale and is rapidly going to pieces. The crew escaped. The steamer JOHN MARTIN, in tow of the CHISHOLM, was lost on Monday afternoon in the storm and nothing has been heard from her since. The CHISHOLM left Duluth Sunday evening. At 5:30 Monday afternoon, the MARTIN cut the towline. The CHISHOLM struck on the rocks at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning trying to enter Washington Harbor. She was loaded with barley and was built in 1880. The MARTIN was built in 1873 and carried lumber. Both boats were owned by M.A. Bradley of Cleveland.
