The Traverse City Newspaper Morning Record of November 1, ———- reported “The schooner Volunteer was loaded with brick from Grund & Gillett brickyards Tuesday and at night, while at Carters dock, she sprung a leak and went to the bottom in about 12 feet of water.”

Grund & Gillett took over or began a brick making business in Greilickville, next to Traverse City, shortly before 1900. I will have to research the year of the mishap again. I presume the vessel was floated again. Is there a photo somewhere? I am assuming this is the same Volunteer in your archive.
