The steamer KALKASKA, with the consort ALOHA in tow, reached Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday. The KALASKA left Duluth with the ALOHA, MEAD and MEDIATOR in tow. The boats went ashore above Portage Lake canal and the KALASKA was only able to get the ALOHA afloat. Assistance was promptly sent. There will be some salvage on the lumber cargoes of the schooners MEAD and MEDIATOR, but there is small chance of saving either of the boats. The
life-savers rescued the crews.

The schooner J.H. MEAD was released and began proceedings against the steamer KALKASKA to recover damages for loss sustained by his vessel going ashore. He claims the steamer was negligent.
