Champion. General approval of the craft, which was purchased to operate as a ferry boat to La Salle Park, was given. The party of visitors, guests of the commission, was composed of members of the City Council, the various independent boards and their ladies. They were taken for a cruise on the bay and despite the unfavourable weather conditions caused by rain and a drop in the temperature, the outing was thoroughly enjoyed. Music was furnished during the cruise by musicians from H.M.C.S. Star and before returning to the slip at the foot of James street light refreshments were served aboard the craft. The tug Sig/if, which was in Toronto Dry Dock Company's drydock 'or inspection last week, has been purchased by Imperial Oil, Ltd. At present she is being outfitted for South American service, and will proceed to Ecuadorian waters as soon as she can be made ready. H < the skipper of the first 80-foot tug the Glendower, launched by this firm fast year._________|________ Purchase of Ferry Successful Venture Steamer Champion Will Be Remodelled During Winter Operation of the steamer Champion by the Hamilton Harbour Commission the latter part of this summer has been a successful venture and has given real pleasure to many citizens who have taken trips to La Salle Park, the Beach and on special trips. Some week-ends since the operation of the boat several thousands of passengers have been carried and last Sunday it proved very popular, with 1,700 passengers being handled. The boat is now operating only Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and will cease operating after October 1. It is planned to do considerable work on the boat this winter while it is tied up at the foot of James (street. The commission expects to take the lower deck, which has been used for carrying cars, and turn it into a dance floor and various other measures to modernize the craft are being planned.
