Chilean Navy Gets Canadian Frigates Shelburne, N.S., April 1.—Two former Royal Canadian Navy frigates were turned over to the Chilean navy here yesterday by War Assets Corporation. The frigates, Seacliff and Glace Bay, were taken over in a ceremony attended by Pedro Castel Blanco, Chilean ambassador to Canada; Carlos Errazuriz, Chilean consul at Montreal, and representatives of the Canadian navy. Chilean naval forces here were commanded by Commodore Captain de Navio Danilo Bassi. The Seacliff has been renamed "Coradonga" and the Glace Bay "Esmeralda." JFISHING TUG "RESCUED" The fishing tug Elgo was located! Thursday and towea into Erieau by i :the D, and R after being more than 'six hours overdue on a trip to the fishing grounds from the Kent port. The tug developed engine trouble on the return trip from the fishing grounds and had drifted 15 miles, according to Capt. Percy Wrightsell. APPROVES FERRY SERVICE J Crystal Beach Council has ap-' proved the operation of a new ferry i service across Lake Erie, between Point Abino on the adjacent Canadian lakeshore and Buffalo, commencing May 29. The ferry will call at Crystal Beach. LAUNCH CNS VESSEL Canadian National Steamships has anounced the launching, at Vancouver of a 7,500-ton cargo vessel, Canadian Constructor, a sister of Canadian Cruiser, recently launched at Montreal. The Constructor is 436 feet long, 30 feet beam and has a moulded draught of 25 feet. She is planned to devlop a Diesel-powered speed of 16 knots. HAD TO TURN BACK A The British freighter, naltnn Hall, which was expected to open navigation to the port of Montreal from Halifax, returned to Halifax en route to Saint John, N.B., after heavy ice blocked her attempt to reach Montreal.
