4 Fishing Tugs Caught in Ice In Lake Huron Kincardine, Jan. 4 (CP) Crews of four fishing tugs stuck in the ice of Lake Huron tonight were sitting it out and waiting for a change in the wind direction to free them. One of the men, Charles Lindsay, was pulled from the water hy two companions, Hugh Wilson and Thomas Stewart when he fell through a weak spot in the ice while walking to the shore today to fetch supplies. After changing; into dry clothing ashore, Mr. Lindsay helped the others haul a toboggan load of food over half a mile of ice to the trapped vessels. The tugs, with 16 men aboard, became jammed at noon in a small ice field about 40 miles southwest of Owen Sound. The Donna Cay, Jackson Brothers. Long Time and Ferroclad, all of Ihe Jackson Brothers fleet. were sailing from Southampton to Kincardine. Supplies of food and heating fuel were reported low, but there was plenty of fuel for the engines. At Port Franks, 65 miles to the south, an attempt began today to free a tug which has been trapped for about a month in ice at the mouth of the Ausable River. Heavy equipment was being used in an attempt to lift the 45-foot tug cfear of the ice and haul it about a mile to harbor.
