The Funeral of Capt. M.M. Wheeler

The funeral of Capt. M. M. Wheeler at the residence this afternoon was attended by the Board of Trade, Common Council and an immense gathering of citizens. Rev. H. H. Stebbins of Grace church officiated. The coffin bore handsome floral decorations. The services consisted of reading the scriptures and prayer, after which the body was viewed by the friends and acquaintances of the deceased among whom were noticed many sailors and poor people whom he had befriended. The bearers were W. R. Hosmer, R.J. Oliphant, N.W. Nutting, John T. Mott, W.T. Gilchrist, C.W. Jacobs, I.B. Poucher, Geo. H. Hess. Interment took place at Riverside cemetery.
