STATISTICS OF I,AKE COMMERCE. 211 ST. MARY'S FALLS CANAL TRAFFIC, SEASONS OF 1892, 1893 AND 1894. The complete statements of St. Mary's Falls canal traffic for the years 1892, 1893, and 1894, prepared under the direction of Gen. 0. M. Poe, will prove valuable for purposes of comparison, and an indication of the value and volume of the traffic may be deducted from the figures. While the freight tonnage of 1893 as compared with 1892 showed a falling off of 4^ per cent., the movement in 1894 was 2,600,000 tons greater than in 1893, and nearly 2,000,000 tons greater than in 1892, the year in which the greatest amount of freight was moved during the history of the canal.
