Departments of the Dry Dock Engine Works, Detroit, Mich. RELATIONS.—This is a separate corporation but owned and managed by the same stockholders, directors and officers as the ship yard, with offices in the same building as the ship yard offices. Mr. C. B. Calder is superintendent. MACHINE SHOP.—This is across the street from the ship yard on the corner of Atwater and Orleans street. The main building is 200 feet long, 64 feet wide, three stories high on the lean-to side, with the open shop on the other. This shop is fully equipped with all necessary kinds of machinery of the largest capacity for the construction of High Pressure, Vertical and Horizontal Engines; Compound, Vertical and Horizontal Engines, Triple Expansion Engines of all descriptions, Quadruple Expansion Engines, 100 to 10,000 H.P. Repairs of all kinds and descriptions of machinery made in short time on brief notice. BOILER SHOP.—A large steel and brick building opposite the ship yard, is equipped with a complete hydraulic riveting aud flanging plan,t; Tools, Punches, and Planers and sheet iron departments; complete for building High Pressure, Vertical, Horizontal and Cylindrical Boilers and High Pressure Donkey Boilers. All kinds of sheet iron work, smoke stacks, tanks, heaters, ash pans, breechings, turned out promptly. Repairs to all kinds and descriptions of metal promptly attended to. FOUNDRY.—Complete foundry for making marine castings, propeller wheels, machinery, difficult and complicated castings a specialty. Brass castings of all kinds. SMITH SHOP.—This shop is equipped with a powerful steam hammer and a furnace, and is fully provided with everything necessary to execute new work or repair work. PATTERN SHOP. Facilities for making light and heavy patterns of all kinds are first-class, and a large supply of propeller wheels, solid and sectional, are kept on hand. GENERAL WORK. General work is done in constructing Pumping machinery, Condensers, Heaters, Deck Engines, Bilge Pumps, U. S. Government Standard Hand Fire Pump, Hoisting Gear with engine, shafting and drums, etc , complete, Gangway Cranes, Car Jacks and equipments for securing cars on board steamers ; Ash Guns and marine machinery of special design; Dry Dock Dope Cups, Propeller Wheels, sectional and solid. Buckets for Side Wheel Steamers, Shafting, Shoes, Steering Gears, etc. STORAGE YARD.—A dock and yard for the free storage of spare wheels of steamers is provided. DRAFT NG OFFICE.—Located on the corner of Dequendre and Atwater streets, is where all machinery drawings and work is arranged, with draughtsmen, etc.
