This was the first tug I've ever worked on, I was a deck hand from the late 70's through the 80's. My dad was the chief engineer on her. Windsor Detroit Barge Lines owned her, she hauled railroad barges between Windsor and Detroit for over 20 years. Memories....
I worked with Gayton Sr.(Engineer) and Allan (Sandy) Sanderson (Master) as a deck hand in the mid 1970's - A great time.
Worked on the Prescotont as a deckhand in the summer months from 1977 to 1980. Best job I ever had. Joe Gayton Sr. was the Engineer and Sandy Sanderson was the Master on board. Great memories, will miss her.
My dad (George Willard) also worked on this tug for over 20 years from late 1940s to 1971.It transported rail cars between Prescott, Ont. to Ogdensburg New York and back. Most cases hauling lumber to the U.S. and coal on return trip. The tug was used to break ice on occasion in the winter and ran year around. The business was shutdown in 1970 when the dock burned on the U.S.side and was never restarted. The tug was built in Lauzon,Quebec in 1928.The tug was well maintained and very well maintained.During the time that my dad was captain .i made several return trips to the U.S.
