p.2 Incidents of the Day - The mayor of Prescott served notice on the captain of the Columbian that the steamer would not be permitted to land there on Sunday last.

The handsome American yacht Consuelo, owned by G.T. Rafferty, of New York, and at present in commission among the islands, called at Swift's wharf today with a pleasure party on board.

Canals On Sunday - The vesselmen have received a reply from Ottawa to their complaint as to the closing of canals on Sundays, especially in reference to the Cornwall and Murray canals. The reply simply recites the present regulations, and gives no intimation of any intention to alter them.

VICTORY FOR THE STEAMBOAT COMPANY.

The Alexandria Bay steamboat company, which owns the steamers Island Belle and New Island Wanderer and runs in opposition to the Thousand Island steamboat company, commenced a suit through its attorneys, Smith & Smith, vs. the New York Central & Hudson river railroad company, to have it determined that they had a right to use the railroad dock at Clayton and to recover $20,000 damages for diverting traffic from one company to another. Mullin, Griffin & Walker, of Watertown, were attorneys for the defendant. Mr. Griffin demurred to the complaint on the grounds that it did not state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action. Justice McLennan sustained the demurrer, and his order has now been affirmed by the appellate court with costs. All the judges concurred. This is a victory for the Thousand Island steamboat company, which handles all the railroad business at the Thousand Islands.

IN MARINE CIRCLES.

The tug Hall with six light barges arrived from Montreal this afternoon.

The tug Bronson with two grain laden barges cleared this morning for Montreal.

The schooner Nellie Hunter, light, cleared this morning for Oswego to load coal for this port.

The steamer Sir L. Tilley, Fort William, 40,000 bushels of wheat, discharged today at the M.T. Co.'s elevators.

The schooners Dunn, Albatross and Bavaria, Toledo, timber laden, are on their way down Lake Ontario bound for Garden Island.

The steamer Glengarry and consort Minnedosa, Fort William, wheat laden, are due to arrive at the M.T. Co.'s anchorage tonight.

p.6 Snips - Capt. Craig's new ferry steamer Jubilee was given her trial trip to Wolfe Island this morning, and beat the time of the other ferry boats with a pressure of only fifty-five pounds of steam.

The schooner Grantham is delivering her second cargo of coal, 657 tons, at Rockwood, in fulfillment of Ald. Stewart's contract. One more cargo will complete the contract.
