STEAMER IN TROUBLE

Word was received in the city early on Wednesday morning, that the steamer John Duncan was ashore near South Bay.

It is understood that the vessel was coal-laden, on her way from Conneaut to Belleville. The report also stated that the vessel sprung a leak, and that the captain, in order to keep the boat from sinking, ran her ashore. The steamer Saginaw of the Donnelly Wrecking Co. has gone to her aid.

The steamer Strathcona passed up on Wednesday morning.

The schooner St. Louis is in port from Oswego, with a cargo of coal for Patrick Walsh.

The steamer Plummer passed up on Wednesday.

The schooner Abbie L. Andrews arrived from Charlotte with coal for R. Crawford.

The government steamer Scout was at Swift's wharf on Tuesday night.

The steambarge Jeska cleared for Oswego on Tuesday night.

M.T. Co.'s elevator: tug Virginia of the Hackett company, from Montreal, with the dredge Brussels and three scows; tug Bartlett cleared with the outfit for the Welland canal; steamer Fairmount, grain-laden from Fort William, is discharging; steamer Spaulding, grain-laden from Duluth, will arrive Thursday; tug Thomson cleared for Montreal with three grain barges.

The steamer Simla will pass down Wednesday night from Port Colborne with grain for Montreal.

The steamer Toiler arrived at the shipyard on Tuesday night, and was undergoing repairs to her hull at the wharf.

The barge Ceylon, of the Calvin company, will go into the Kingston dry dock for repairs to her bottom.

The steamer Loretta, used for supply and repair on the Rideau river, was in port on Wednesday morning.

The steamer Belleville passed down on Wednesday morning.

p.8 Incidents of the Day - It is reported that the Montreal Transportation company will acquire three vessels of the Calvin fleet. They are the steamer Prince Rupert and the two barges Ceylon and Burmah.
